CCC: Chinese automobile market shows unbridled growth

7. May 2014

The Chinese Automotive market has shown itself to be very strong, with continued growth projected in the future:

  • Since 2013, China has become the largest automobile market in the world.
  • According to current forecasts, the production of vehicles in China will prospective increase double by 2017, if you compare it with the amount of production seen today. These figures are supported by current analyses of several Chinese institutions projections.
  • According to the analyses, as of March 2014, 2,201,700 vehicles have been produced showing a growth of 34.4% in comparison to the previous month. Furthermore, in the first quarter of 2014 the production of alternative energy vehicles is at 6,651, compared to the first quarter of the previous year, the production has more than doubled.

The German automotive industry finds great potential in the Chinese automobile market, especially because China is the third largest market for German automobiles after the United States and the United Kingdom . According to a report by the Association of the Automotive Industry, January 2014 has been the strongest month since 2008 for German manufacturers.

It is also predicted that the development of the automotive market will be characterized by a still-growing demand for premium vehicles from abroad, due of the increasing prosperity of the Chinese. According to a review by Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), the growth rate of vehicle sales in Western China has been twice as high as in the east of the country – which confirms the assumptions of the growing demand for premium vehicles.
