Autonomous driving – China wants to take the lead by 2030

16. January 2018

China could reach a leading position in autonomous driving by 2030. This technology is considered as part of a smart urbanization concept and is supported by the industrial modernization program “Made in China 2025”. In addition to urbanization concepts, the modernization program also promotes the development of electric vehicles, sustainability and intelligent transport and traffic planning.

In order to realize this smart urbanization concept various collaborations have been taken place in China, e.g. FAW with China Mobile and SAIC with Alibaba.

First vehicles have already been tested. Research projects have brought international companies together. For many years, Daimler has been cooperating with the Tsinghua University Research Center and BMW with the Baidu Internet Group. In 2013, Bosch had already driven the first driverless vehicle (Tesla) on the German roads.
