Amid the world’s highest density of robots, the KCs certification in Korea becomes a critical competitive factor
South Korea has one of the highest density of robots worldwide. With more than 770 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, the country has more than twice as many installed units as Germany. Overall, the country has doubled its basis of installed robots within the last five years. Robots in the manufacturing industry are the most important contributor to this development. According to the latest data, more than 300,000 robots are in use for industrial purposes in the country. Industrial robots in Korea can fall under a mandatory Korea Certification requirement for the KCs Certification for machines.
One important contributing factor to the development of recent years have been several government initiatives and subsidy programs. Another crucial step was the extension of training measures for employees for dealing with robots and automation in their working environment and further promoting the accumulation of know-how in this area. Furthermore, the government has proclaimed the target to train an additional 50,000 workers until 2022 under their “smart manufacturing strategy”.
The most important sectors for robots are the automotive and electronics industry. Another important boost for demand is the recent growth in the batterie industry. One example for this trend is a plan by LG Chem to build a new battery factory in southeast Korea over the next two years.
The growing cultural significance of robots in Korea is being underlined by the fact that the city of Changwon, on the Southeastern coast of Korea, opened the world’s first theme park especially dedicated to robots last year.
Many industrial robots require a KCs Certification for the Korean market. More information on how a Korea Crtification may affect your company and the general certification process can be found in our free brochure on the KCs certification. The PDF-file can be downloaded here.
