Tesla delivers the first 30 Model 3s to customers
Tesla’s highly anticipated Model3 is finally starting to roll off production.
It’s the third model in the current range that includes, the Model X – Tesla’s crossover SUV and the Model S – Tesla’s entry into the saloon market.
The Model3 will be able to travel an impressive 215 miles on a single charge and is available at half the cost of the current Model S range, meaning that a brand new Model3 will cost as little as $35,000. However, in the US the cost will be reduced to $27,500 with a federal tax credit for electric vehicles worth $7,500.
At the moment, Tesla has a relatively low manufacturing output when compared to its domestic competition. For example, in recent figures released, General Motors produced 10 million vehicles in the year ending 2015. In that same period, Tesla managed to manufacture an estimated 85,000 vehicles.
However, Tesla has set ambitious goals. As it stands, Tesla is receiving nearly 1,800 reservations per day for the new Model3. This means that since reservations were open to the public, they have received an incredible 500,000 reservations.
According to their best estimates, Tesla expects to be able to meet demand, with a projected 5,000 vehicles weekly output, by the end of the year; boosting annual production for 2018 to 500,000 vehicles.
