Ford confirms production of electric delivery vehicle Streetscooter Work XL

The largest version of the electrically powered transporter will be produced at the Cologne Ford plant from the beginning of October. It is manufactured by Ford in cooperation with StreetScooter GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL Group. Basis of the Streetscooter Work XL is the chassis of the Ford Transit, which is manufactured in the Ford Otosan plant in Kocaeli in Turkey. In Cologne, the powertrain, the batteries, additional electrical components as well as the body and the driver’s cab are mounted. The completion of the vehicle is taken over by 180 Ford employees, the production output at full capacity is 3,500 vehicles per year. The first 1,000 electric delivery vehicles will be put into operation by Deutsche Post later this year.

While the Work XL is the largest version of the Streetscooter series, it is complemented by the Work and Work L models already introduced and in production. The E-Transporter Work XL has a loading capacity of 20 cubic meters, equivalent to about 200 parcels or a payload of 1275 kilograms and a gross vehicle weight of 4050 kilos. Depending on customer requirements, different-performance electric motors and lithium-ion batteries can be installed. Thus, the electric powertrain provides up to 90 kW and a maximum torque of up to 276 Nm. With the highest battery capacity of 76 kilowatt hours, a range of up to 200 km can be achieved, the maximum speed is limited to 90 km / h. Thanks to the all-electric drive, the E-Transporter makes its contribution to CO2 reduction and clean air in inner cities. Compared to a conventional delivery van, the Work XL saves on average 5 tons of climate-damaging CO2 and 1,900 liters of diesel fuel annually.

At the moment, Deutsche Post DHL is the exclusive customer for the Work XL, but the other two smaller models are already being sold to third parties. For these, Ford has also agreed to take over the production of vehicles on behalf of StreetScooter GmbH and the sales and service in Germany. Currently, the electric powered transporters can be purchased at over 100 locations. Electric vehicles that are to be imported into China or produced there require the China CCC certification. The relevant GB standards need to be fulfilled.
