Volvo Recalls Truck Vehicles Due to Safety Risks
According to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) a recall plan was filed on May 27th, 2017 to recall no less than 21 Volvo trucks from the FE series produced between December 2014 and May 2016.
According to reports it was discovered that as part of the production many of the vehicle components did not meet national standards, notably – that the tightening torque of the fixed nut of the rear axle steel leaf spring, and the crane were all found to be below the national standard requirements.
Because of the deficiencies mentioned, if the vehicle is travelling over a long distance, over an extended amount of time on rugged and uneven surfaces, there is an increased possibility of the fixed nut becoming loose.
This is problematic, because it can cause increased and abnormal tyre wear on the rear tyres and a peculiar grating sound in the rear axles. It also causes the steel leaf spring and vehicle crane hanger at the chain of rubber bushings to further wear down abnormally, and in some cases the fixing bolts have even been found to shatter. This compromises the overall stability and integrity of the vehicle. These problems could result in serious accidents, endangering the lives of drivers and other people.
Companies which purchased a Volvo FE series truck between December 2014 and May 2016, or have experienced any of the problems noted above, are recommended to immediately contact a Volvo authorized dealer to get a repair. Also note that Volvo (China) will diagnose the vehicles within the remits of the recall, and depending on the diagnoses reports will replace the defects.
Part of the reason for why these vehicles failed to meet national standards, is because it appears that the manufacturers were not properly versed in the CCC certification pre-conditions for importing vehicles to China.
It is imperative that manufacturers and the manufacturers of parts are properly aware of regulations. They need to determine that the parts can be certified and are subsequently safe.
