Low-power motors are subject to strict regulatory guidelines in many countries. This applies to China as well, where the GB standard<\/a><\/strong> GB\/T12350-2009 was defining the relevant technical requirements for this product group since 2009. However, a new version GB\/T12350-2022 was published on April 15, 2022. This new standard, which is merely recommendatory in nature like its predecessor, officially came into force on January 1, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New requirements are included in almost every section of the document and even include basic definitions as well as the general scope of the standard. For example, new motor types including servo motors, are now covered by this standard. The specification as a “stand-alone power source”, on the other hand, has been deleted from the definition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important innovations of the revised standard certainly refer to its test requirements, which, depending on the classification of the motor type, have been expanded and\/or adapted. This includes for example, additional flammability tests for non-metallic components, dielectric strength tests, modified requirements for any plugs and markings if applicable, and much more. The official overview of all technical changes alone covers 12 pages, parts of which being merely additional references to sections in the new standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Motors and their components represent a complex product group whose certification requirements must be individually checked for the Chinese market. They fall under different standards and certification categories, depending on their characteristics and often require mandatory certification. Numerous motor products fall under the CCC Certification (China Compulsory Certification)<\/u><\/strong><\/a> or CCC Self-Declaration<\/u><\/strong><\/a> requirements for the Chinese market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese GB Standards and Implementation Rules are regularly updated by the authorities, often having considerable implications for the corresponding product manufacturers. Updates are usually not announced and must be independently tracked and implemented by certified factories. Failure to do so may result in severe consequences, including cancellation of certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
