Well-known car brands that have dominated the luxury segment in China so far will get a competitor this year with Li Auto’s second series model. The all-electric vehicle will be a full-size SUV in the luxury segment, Li Auto reports. The vehicle, which will compete directly with Audi’s Q7 and BMW’s X5, is expected to debut before the end of the second quarter of 2022, the EV startup said. Shen Yanan, co-founder and president of Li Auto, said delivery of the yet-to-be-named vehicle is then expected in the third quarter of this year. At a press conference on the company’s financial results, Shen said his company would specialise in class rather than mass for the new model. Therefore, he said, no development of another, third vehicle model of Li Auto would be considered. Vehicles and components must be awarded a CCC certificate<\/a><\/strong> in order for the products to be exported to China or manufactured locally.<\/p>\n

\nWithout giving further details about the new SUV, the EV portal CnEVPost only knows the dimensions. According to the report, the e-SUV will be 5.15 metres long, 1.98 metres wide and 1.8 metres high. According to the sales manager of a large car dealer in Shanghai, luxury SUVs with e-drives could well appeal to wealthy buyers. “This target group is pleased to have intelligent function such as a large display or voice recognition,” says the manager. If Li Auto’s new model is equipped with these features, it could become a serious rival to established luxury SUVs, he estimated. Li Auto is listed on the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges and currently has only one production vehicle in its portfolio, the Li One. The vehicle, which is only available in mainland China, is a mid-size SUV with hybrid technology. The price is 338,000 RMB, the combined range is given as 800 kilometres.<\/p>\n
