Magna opens new plant in the Czech Republic

29. November 2018

On October 11, the plant was officially opened in Chomutov in the northwest of the Czech Republic. Full productivity is expected by the end of 2018. In the new production facility, car seats are produced in different designs for numerous vehicle models of the BMW Group. In addition to the new plant, Magna, a Canadian automotive supplier headquartered in Ontario, already owns 16 plants in Europe and five in the Czech Republic.

The modern-equipped factory will produce more than 360,000 seats a year at full capacity on an area of 6,000 m². 150 new jobs were created at the start of the production and another 150 will follow in 2019. Equipped with the latest technology available in the manufacturing sector, special attention has been paid to provide a high level of flexibility to respond quickly to customer requirements and possible changes. According to Mike Bisson, President of Magna Seating, they are pleased with the new contract with the BMW Group. Magna could thereby further expand its global growth as well as create new jobs and support the local economy. He also praised the Czech Republic as an innovative and cost-effective location for the automotive industry.

Magna new plant in Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is currently on the upswing as an attractive location for car manufacturers and suppliers. One reason for this is the presence of Skoda and its increasing sales of vehicles. Other suppliers such as International Automotive Components (IAC) are considering the opening of production sites in the Czech Republic. In addition to Europe, Magna is also involved in China, where it produces car doors for a German car manufacturer together with a joint venture partner and works with BAIC on a new platform for an electric vehicle.
