China Issues New Safety Standard for Automotive Door Handles

Published on January 28, 2026, the standard is scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2027. The regulation is administered by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and implemented through the Body Accessories Subcommittee of the National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee (TC114SC17). Automotive door handles usually require CCC certification in order to be approved for import and sale in China.
New National Requirements for Automotive Door Handle Safety
GB 48001-2026 establishes mandatory technical requirements specifically addressing the safety performance of automotive door handles. The standard has been classified under the safety category and carries the International Classification for Standards (ICS) code 43.040.60, covering vehicle body and body component systems.

The publication of a dedicated standard for door handles indicates increasing regulatory focus on ensuring reliable operation and occupant access under both normal and emergency conditions. It also complements existing Chinese standards governing vehicle door locks, retention systems, and related body hardware.
