China Approves New Mandatory GB Standards Under CCC Framework

28. May 2026

China has announced the approval and publication of six mandatory national standards and one amendment to a mandatory national standard through the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC). The announcement forms part of the country’s ongoing effort to strengthen product safety, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance requirements within the Chinese market.

Among the newly approved standards are GB 4774-2026 Safety Technical Specifications for Batteries in Electric Wheelchairs and GB 29539-2025 Energy Efficiency Limits and Energy Efficiency Ratings for Household and Similar Use Range Hoods and Exhaust Fans. These standards introduce updated technical requirements that manufacturers, importers, and suppliers should review when preparing products for the Chinese market. Electric wheelchair batteries and household range hoods or exhaust fans usually require CCC certification in order to be approved for import and sale in China.

Updated Technical and Energy Efficiency Requirements

The newly approved standards address two important regulatory areas. GB 4774-2026 focuses on safety requirements for batteries used in electric wheelchairs, reflecting growing attention to battery performance, electrical safety, and reliability in mobility-related products. Compliance with the standard is expected to support improved product safety and help reduce risks associated with battery operation and use.

GB 29539-2025 establishes energy efficiency limits and rating requirements for household and similar-use range hoods and exhaust fans. Energy efficiency standards play a significant role in China’s regulatory framework by encouraging energy-saving technologies and providing measurable performance benchmarks for manufacturers. Products covered by the standard may need to demonstrate compliance with the specified efficiency criteria before entering the market.

Implications for Manufacturers and Market Access

The publication of new mandatory GB standards signals forthcoming compliance obligations for affected industries. Companies manufacturing electric wheelchair batteries, household range hoods, and exhaust fans should assess product designs, testing procedures, technical documentation, and certification strategies to ensure alignment with the updated requirements.

For products falling within the scope of China’s compulsory conformity assessment system, compliance with relevant mandatory national standards is often a prerequisite for obtaining or maintaining China Compulsory Certification (CCC). Manufacturers exporting to China should therefore monitor implementation timelines, transition arrangements, and any related certification updates issued by regulatory authorities.

China regularly revises mandatory standards to enhance consumer protection, product quality, and energy conservation objectives. The approval of these new standards demonstrates the continued development of the country’s regulatory framework and highlights the importance of maintaining compliance with evolving GB standard requirements. Additional technical details may become available through official standard publications and certification resources as implementation progresses.
