China Announces GB/T 34014 Battery Coding Amendment
21. May 2026China has announced an update to GB/T 34014-2017, the national standard covering coding rules for automotive power batteries. The amendment was included in Announcement No. 4 of 2026, issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China on January 28, 2026.
The announcement approved 354 recommended national standards and seven amendments to existing recommended national standards. Among these, Amendment No. 1 to GB/T 34014-2017 is the relevant update for automotive power battery coding. The amendment is scheduled to take effect on August 1, 2026. Many batteries and battery components usually require CCC or battery registration in order to be approved for import and sale in China.

Update to Automotive Power Battery Coding Rules
GB/T 34014-2017 defines coding rules for automotive power batteries, supporting identification, traceability, and regulatory management across the battery supply chain. The newly approved Amendment No. 1 indicates that China is continuing to refine technical requirements linked to battery identification and compliance documentation.
Although the same announcement also includes several other standards and amendments across sectors such as rail transit, pressure equipment, medical devices, and industrial products, companies dealing with batteries should focus on the GB/T 34014-2017 amendment because of its relevance to automotive power battery systems and related components.
Compliance Impact for Battery Manufacturers
Manufacturers, importers, and exporters of automotive power batteries should review the amendment before its implementation date. Companies may need to check whether existing product coding, technical files, labeling practices, and registration documents remain consistent with the amended requirements.
For products entering the Chinese market, battery coding can support conformity assessment, traceability, and post-market supervision. Businesses supplying battery cells, modules, packs, or related components should therefore monitor whether the amendment affects documentation used for CCC approval, battery registration, customs clearance, or customer compliance reviews.
Further regulatory details may be available through official standardization channels or certification resources as the implementation date approaches.
