Authorities in China closed for Chinese New Year 2023

The Year of the Rabbit, which starts on January 21 of 2023, is heralded by the Chinese New Year festivities. The celebration, also known as the Spring Festival, has a yearly change in date because it is based on the lunar calendar.

During the holiday season, many Chinese government offices close early—often even a few days early—to give staff members adequate time to return home.

The Chinese authorities are once again shuttered for a few days this year. The CQC (China Quality Certification Centre) will be closed from January 21 to 27, 2023, inclusive, and test laboratories will likewise be closed during this time, according to official sources. From January 20 to 31, 2023, the CCAP (China Certification Centre for Automotive Products) will likewise be closed.

The US and Chinese subsidiaries of MPR China Certification GmbH as well as the German branch will all be open and conducting business as normal. Throughout the Chinese New Year, we will be happy to continue assisting you with your certification procedures.

New GB Standard GB 31241-2022 for Lithium-Ion Cells and Batteries in China

The SAC (Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic) issued an announcement from December 29, 2022 notifying that an updated version of GB Standard GB 31241-2014: Safety Specifications for Lithium-Ion Cells and Batteries for Portable Electronic Devices will be effective from January 1, 2024. The new standard will be GB 31241-2022 and lithium-ion cells and batteries may be covered by CCC certification and battery registration for China.

More information about the changes to the GB 31241-2022 standard will be posted on our website as soon as they are known. It is expected that the new version of the standard will set higher requirements for the safety and reliability of lithium-ion cells and batteries for portable electronic devices to further ensure consumer safety.

The CCC certificate is a mandatory certification in China that was introduced in 2002. It is similar to the European CE system and regulates that products requiring CCC certification can only be imported, sold, and used in China after they have received CCC certification.

The GB standards are one of the most important groups of standards in China that define the requirements for product conformity according to Chinese requirements. They apply to all products available on the market and are a prerequisite for production facilities to obtain a CCC certificate for their products.

New Standard GB 15084-2022 for Indirect Vision Equipment

In the nineteenth announcement of 2022, the SAMR (State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration) announced that some 54 new mandatory national standards (known as guobiao or GB standards for short) have been approved. The main focus has been put on protective clothing, the specifications for various electrical devices, as well as emission limits for production in various industries, and the improvement of safety for the transport of oil, gas and LNG.

Among other things, the announcement also concerns GB 15084-2013, which regulates the “requirements for the devices for indirect vision, performance and installation requirements”, i.e. mirrors and rear-view cameras. This will be replaced by the newer standard GB 15084-2022. The new standard will come into force in the summer of 2023, after which there will be a transition period of probably 6 months until the new standard becomes mandatory.

The GB standard specifies, among other things, technical requirements, test methods and positioning of mirrors on vehicles.

Mirrors require a CCC certificate in China.
