CCC certification is subject to national, Chinese GB standards, as well as implementation rules depending on the product type. The CCC certificate is mandatory for both imported and China-made products. Without this certificate, no goods that are relevant for certification, may be imported into China, sold in China or used in other business activities. Locally, the Chinese central authority CNCA (Certification and Accreditation Administration) controls the CCC certification.

Ford confirms production of electric delivery vehicle Streetscooter Work XL

The largest version of the electrically powered transporter will be produced at the Cologne Ford plant from the beginning of October. It is manufactured by Ford in cooperation with StreetScooter GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL Group. Basis of the Streetscooter Work XL is the chassis of the Ford Transit, which is manufactured in the Ford Otosan plant in Kocaeli in Turkey. In Cologne, the powertrain, the batteries, additional electrical components as well as the body and the driver’s cab are mounted. The completion of the vehicle is taken over by 180 Ford employees, the production output at full capacity is 3,500 vehicles per year. The first 1,000 electric delivery vehicles will be put into operation by Deutsche Post later this year.

While the Work XL is the largest version of the Streetscooter series, it is complemented by the Work and Work L models already introduced and in production. The E-Transporter Work XL has a loading capacity of 20 cubic meters, equivalent to about 200 parcels or a payload of 1275 kilograms and a gross vehicle weight of 4050 kilos. Depending on customer requirements, different-performance electric motors and lithium-ion batteries can be installed. Thus, the electric powertrain provides up to 90 kW and a maximum torque of up to 276 Nm. With the highest battery capacity of 76 kilowatt hours, a range of up to 200 km can be achieved, the maximum speed is limited to 90 km / h. Thanks to the all-electric drive, the E-Transporter makes its contribution to CO2 reduction and clean air in inner cities. Compared to a conventional delivery van, the Work XL saves on average 5 tons of climate-damaging CO2 and 1,900 liters of diesel fuel annually.

At the moment, Deutsche Post DHL is the exclusive customer for the Work XL, but the other two smaller models are already being sold to third parties. For these, Ford has also agreed to take over the production of vehicles on behalf of StreetScooter GmbH and the sales and service in Germany. Currently, the electric powered transporters can be purchased at over 100 locations. Electric vehicles that are to be imported into China or produced there require the China CCC certification. The relevant GB standards need to be fulfilled.

“Foreign Trade: Practical Certification Examples in the People’s Republic of China” – Lecture at the 27th China Workshop

On Jan. 31st 2019, the export industry ICS GmbH will hold the 27th “China Workshop”. MPR China Certification GmbH will contribute to the event by introducing all participants to the various certifications required in China.

The People’s Republic of China is both the most important production location and sales market for many industries. Despite the fact that China is now the second largest economy in the world, producing in and trading with China continues to present many challenges: Besides differences between the markets in China and the West and the special role of state actors in China, it is the vast certification system in China which should not be underestimated.

Whether or not a particular product needs to be certified remains one of the most common issues for many manufacturers. The most important Chinese certification is the CCC certification, which is similar to the European CE marking. CCC is mandatory for a wide range of products, including toys, safety glass and interior trimming components for automotive use.

For specific product areas there are also other relevant certifications: Telecommunications products may require a SRRC registration and/or NAL certification. Medical products and cosmetics usually require a NMPA registration (formerly CFDA). On the other hand, refrigerators, air conditioners and other energy-intensive appliances may only be imported into China with a valid China Energy Label (CEL). Sometimes, different certifications for a product have to be considered.

The seminar aims to provide detailed instructions and solutions for the strategic and operative China business and does not limit itself to specific product areas. Amongst others, the following topics will be covered: Plant and mechanical engineering, food sector and medical technology.

All interested parties are cordially invited to register with the Exportwirtschaft ICS GmbH for the 27th China Workshop. By making your reservation prior to Dec. 31st, 2018 you will benefit from an exclusive early bird discount! The venue is at Frankfurt Airport Center 1, Hugo-Eckener-Ring, 60549 Frankfurt am Main.

Since 2005, the MPR China China Certification GmbH has been helping companies around the world obtain CCC (China Compulsory Certification). Further certifications that we can support you with include the Taiwan Certification for automotive components. We also offer customs clearance in China.

Growing Demand for Special Functions Lead to New Interior Design Solutions for Vehicles

Modern vehicles represent more than just a means of transportation to their users. Increasing requirements lead to a change of interior design concepts to create additional functions including more room for storage.

The Swabian automotive supplier Schock Metall is seeking to create tailor-made solutions for their clients. The company originally comes from the furniture industry and they are using their furniture design experience in vehicles. One example is the glove box, where the latch “push and pull” mechanism that is used to open the glove box has been replaced with a space-saving slide system. This makes the glove box very easily accessible. The German manufacturer produces the components completely assembled and ready-to-install with their own techniques.

New Interior Design Solutions for Vehicles

This trend may also be of interest in China, the biggest car market in the world. Luxury cars and exclusive equipment and functions are very popular. Vehicles and certain vehicle components for the Chinese market must be labeled with the CCC logo of the China Compulsory Certificate (CCC certificate).

Lectra emphasizes dynamics of China’s automotive market

Lectra is a leading, multinational manufacturing company based in Paris specialized in the development of cutting machines for leather and textiles used in the furniture, fashion and automotive industries. In recent years they have been producing digital cutting machines which accounted for 40% of the companies € 277 million in sales for 2017.

China plays a significant role for Lectra in several respects: globally, they are now the largest automotive market and therefore both an important production site as well as market for seat covers, vehicle interiors and airbags. China has shown more of a willingness to embrace Lectra’s newer technologies including digital cutting machines compared to the West. Holger Max-Lang, Managing Director of Lectra Germany, points out that on average Chinese customers place significantly higher demands on the company. Although the company’s roadmap already includes these “special requests”, they usually come as a surprise as there do not seem to be similar demands in Europe, yet. At the same time, Chinese companies are profiting from their drive for digitization. While many European companies seem to have a more conservative stance, e.g. by investing in well-established but almost outdated technologies and machines, Chinese firms are eager to implement innovative equipment and ideas such as Industry 4.0.

China Introduces Mandatory CCC Certification for E-Bikes

E-Bikes

Following an announcement from last year, China has now implemented the mandatory China Compulsory Certification (CCC) for e-bikes: Since August 1st, 2018, electric bicycles are now subject to CCC. A legal import and distribution as well as production in China is therefore only possible with a valid CCC certificate.

The Chinese Certification and Accreditation Authority of China (CNCA) recently issued the official CNCA implementation rules that are the basis for the certification process. The regulations for e-bikes have the code CNCA-C11-16:2018. E-bike models that meet certain criteria can be combined in so-called certification units. Important criteria for the unit classification, amongst others, are the bicycle frame and front fork, the type of electric drive and the battery used.
The product requirements for e-bikes are stipulated in the Chinese national standards, the so-called GB standards. The relevant standard for electric bikes is GB 17761. As announced earlier this year, the current version of the standard from 1999 is currently being revised due to the new regulations and will be replaced by a new version later this year. After a transitional period, the new standard is expected to be implemented in April 2019.
You are a manufacturer of e-bikes and would like to or produce in or import your products to China in the future? You are already active in the Chinese market and want to learn more about how the new regulations affect your business? Then please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to advise you on the new regulations in detail and individually for your needs. We also offer original versions of the Chinese regulations as well as translations.

BMW and Brilliance build third plant in China

Brilliance and the Munich-based company have been working together successfully for 15 years and have since set up a joint venture called BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) for this purpose. According to internal information, BMW also plans to increase its stake in BBA. This is made possible by a change in the law since this summer, which now allows western companies to own more than 50 percent of the company shares in a joint venture.

BMW Brilliance Automotive

According to Chinese government information, the BBA joint venture is investing in the construction of another factory in Shenyang, northeast China. Details and an official statement from BMW have not been made public so far. Meanwhile, the production capacity of the two existing plants is expected to rise to 520,000 vehicles. Currently, several models of BMW are produced in China, including the popular SUV X3 and X5. Also planned is the production of a fully electric model of the BMW X3, which could then be exported from China to other markets. In addition, an electric car will be produced under the newly created Zinoro brand.
The People’s Republic continues to maintain its leading position as the largest car market in the world and for many manufacturers, including BMW, it is now also the largest single market in terms of sales of their vehicles. As a result, BWM and Brilliance already operate two production sites for passenger cars and one engine plant in China. Are you also producing in China or do you plan to export your products to China? We help you with the necessary certification for the China Compulsory Certification (CCC).

BorgWarner builds new plant in Wuhan, China

The new plant in Wuhan, which was created in the Caidian Economic Development Zone, includes not only the actual production, but also other business areas such as quality assurance, sales, logistics and finance. The new plant has a total floor space of 26,000 square meters and provides work for just over 300 new employees. At full capacity and after a test phase of operation, the number of workers is to be doubled over the next five years to 600 employees.

Construction began in 2016, one year after the acquisition of Remy International Inc, a leading manufacturer of rotating electrical vehicle components. The new building was based on an existing Remy plant whose production facilities were integrated and expanded into the new BorgWarner plant. For the first time, new drive technologies for hybrid and electric vehicles such as the P2 module are manufactured in China. In September 2018, BorgWarner signed a high volume contract for delivery to two major Chinese OEMs. In addition to the hybrid modules, the plant produces drive motors, starter generators and starters as well as alternators and other associated components.

BorgWarner

According to Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, sees the opening of the new plant as a milestone for BorgWarner in China. This will significantly expand the production capacities of the various drive systems and ensure sustained growth in China. Through close cooperation with local partners as well as increasing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles in China, the new production site will be able to meet the requirements for the coming years. Many components of electric and hybrid vehicles need a China CCC (China Compulsory Certificate).
