The CCC Certificate (China Compulsory Certificate, "3C") has been established in 2002 according to legal requirements and guidelines in the People’s Republic of China. The certificate is compulsory for imported and domestic products. Products which require a CCC Certificate are only allowed to be imported to China, sold in China and being used in China if the products have got a CCC Certificate.
During the certification process product tests and a factory inspection are conducted.

The CCC mark is administered by the CNCA (Certification and Accreditation Administration). The China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) is designated by CNCA to process CCC mark applications. The CQC also defines the products that need CCC. Other certification bodies such as CCAP (also CCCAP, China Certification Centre for Automotive Products) are also allowed to perform the certification.
Those products that are mentioned in the official catalogue of the P.R. China published by the CQC (original version: "First Catalogue of Products Subject to China Compulsory Certification (CCC)") require a certification. If a specific product is subject to this catalogue a certification is necessary. In addition to the catalogue the CQC regularly announces new products that are subject to the certification.
